Afraid Of Getting Military Mental Stress Discharge Train Your Mind, Not Just Your Body!

Several military members get discharged every year because of the mental stress they experience while deployed. Getting discharged may be for their own health and safety in such situations; their stress, anxiety, and depression can put them in trouble and may even worsen if they stay in the field.

Unfortunately, as a military member, you would want to avoid getting discharged, especially if you have not served your full term. When you get discharged due to mental stress before you complete your term, you will not be eligible for Veteran benefits unless the doctors rule it as a medical discharge.

Being in the military is naturally stressful for anyone. You have to let go of the comforts of home and exchange it for an environment you have no control over. You also dont know what to expect. And who knows when war is going to strike? This kind of situation is enough to cause severe mental stress on anyone; some are able to handle it, while some are not. If you are about to get deployed, it would be best if you know what to do to keep the mental stress from overwhelming you.

Train the Mind. As you train your body in the military, make sure to also train the mind. Before you understand how to do that, lets give you a brief overview of how the mind works.

How the Mind Works. The mind has several levels of consciousness, the most prominent of which are the conscious mind and the subconscious. The conscious mind decides what we do, what we think of, and what we are aware of at the present moment. When we are faced with a certain situation or knowledge, the conscious mind filters it and stores it in the subconscious.

The subconscious mind, on the other hand, influences us from underneath the conscious state. Its influences can be very strong and powerful because they just direct our actions and behaviors. Since these influences come from the subconscious, we are not able to filter or evaluate them.

Unfortunately, the subconscious is very sensitive. It can absorb practically anything positive or negative. So when youre out on the field, the subconscious mind is actively absorbing everything you experience. Your subconscious absorbs all the fear, anxiety, restlessness, and negative moods of the people around you. It absorbs the threats in the environment. Slowly, these build up into powerful thought patterns and beliefs, until you stress yourself out because you start to believe in all these negative thoughts.

How to Train the Mind. Training the mind means getting into your own subconscious and conditioning it so that it does not absorb and automatically fends off negative thoughts and beliefs. Instead, you replace these negative thoughts with powerful messages that the subconscious mind can hold on to at all times during deployment.

Some examples are:

I am a survivor.
Survival skills come naturally to me.
I make the best of every situation.

These messages are called subliminal messages, because they pass under or sub the threshold or limens of the conscious mind. They are not recognizable or registered in the conscious mind; they go directly to the subconscious.

Safeguarding Body And Mental Health Despite Alcohol Use

A human cell is approximately 65 percent h2o not alcohol. Neither alcohol nor drugs are not normal elements of a healthy cell. This only signifies that it must pass out of the human systems after intoxication through blood filtration in the livers and kidneys, but not without influencing many organs first such as brain. Especially, without therapy, alcoholics and drug users face a life having a body riddled with many alcohol- and drug-related diseases.

Disabling The Organs

A regular exposure of the body to the barrage of addictive drugs is obviously not healthy. Sooner or later, the organs will each succumb to the abuse – the liver, kidneys, pancreas, stomach and the brain among others. Besides the addiction that is treated in a drug and alcohol rehab program, these addiction-related problems are identified and treated as well.

With continued use of alcohol, the likelihood of medical complications impacting the liver and the pancreas is there such as liver cirrhosis, alcoholic hepatitis, and liver cancer. The gastrointestinal tract is more likely to succumb to alcoholic pancreatitis, esophageal neoplasm, and oral cavity cancer. Too much intoxication can also lead to hypertension, strokes, cardiomyopathy, atrial fibtillation and other cardiovascular diseases. Consistent bingeing and chronic drinking of alcohol are more likely to induce neurological damages as well such as acute intoxication with loss of consciousness, withdrawal symptoms, peripheral neuropathy, seizures, subdural haemorrhage, alcoholic encephalopathy, Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, and cerebellar degeneration.

Alcohol may also cause severe effects on the reproductive health that often leads to loss of sexual urge, reduced in libido and even sterility. Pregnancies may be so affected leading to low birth weights and fetal alcohol syndrome.

Impairing The Power Of The Mind And Disposition

Unnecessary drinking does not only damage the physical aspects of a human body. It also alters the neuronal functions to the point of generating more serious psychological and behavioral problems. Some dreaded but most definitive psychiatric problems that unabated alcoholism can bring are nervousness and despair to the point of suicidal ideation and alcohol dependence syndrome. Passing out or becoming so perplexed happen when one becomes consumed. Crimes are committed by very drunk people. With such disrupted normal brain functions, it is hard to tell what else an alcoholic is efficient at. The sufferer may become a danger to oneself as well as to others.

Only by looking for a prompt treatment from a rehab facility specializing in alcoholism or prescription medication abuse can an alcoholic or a drug dependent have the possibility to live a normal life. If a beloved is in the verge of such physical and mental debilitation, commitment to treatment is important before it gets far too late.

Are Parents The Cause Of Teen Suicide

What drives a teenager to commit suicide? Is a dysfunctional family the cause of teen suicide or is it the peer pressure, low self-esteem, stress, access to drugs, guns, or an unyielding desire to make the pain disappear. Teenage suicide has and is becoming a pandemic in our country and around the world.

According to the National Youth Violence Prevention Resource Center, “teen suicide is the third leading cause of death among teenagers — almost 2,000 teens kill themselves each year.” It is estimated that “over 90% of teen suicide victims have a mental disorder, such as depression, and/or a history of alcohol or drug abuse.”

Our youth has become entrenched in an ideology doled out by those who seek to control, persuade, and coerce our teenagers. At the same time, communication between parent and child has become, in most situations, non-existent. This leaves teenagers to fend for themselves in areas they are too immature to understand, or too eager to become engaged in activities which can lead them astray.

There was a time when teens came directly home after school; were greeted by at least one parent; studied; had a family dinner, and off to bed. Today, the term “latch-key kid” has become the norm, rather than the exception. Teens arrive home late; often to an empty apartment or home. They engage in computer games, while eating junk food; and often do not see their parents until morning and only because they are late getting out of bed. Homework is secondary or non-existent. One can argue a two income household is necessary; but at what cost? Furthermore, if you’ve ever graced a public school environment, you would find teens lack even the rudimentary necessities of life; yet, cell phones are tucked in their worn out jeans and skirts.

The music, movies, and educational system have let down our teenagers in the most rudimentary way. They lack guidance and care. Our child services, our family courts, and our caregivers have offered little to assert the importance of self-worth. Over the years, the make-up of the “family” has dramatically changed. A teenager’s family could be his gang members who, on a daily basis, feed into the destruction of that teen. Morality has become passe, and they have become self-absorbed in an underworld of hatred and self-loathing.

Have all teenagers talked or even thought about suicide? No. However, the statistics are still frightening. A teenager doesn’t suddenly choose to die unless something terribly wrong has pushed him/her over the edge. We cannot allow them to choose that endgame. Teenagers do become depressed, alone, angry, hopeless and helpless. As parents, as friends, as educators, as guardians of this precious commodity – we cannot allow them to succeed in what they think may be in their best interest. They must be given a reason to live, to love, to become needed and useful members of our society.

As adults/parents, we must educate and interact with our youth in a positive, caring and thoughtful way to ensure they have the proper tools with which to grow and gain empowerment. To do less would without a doubt contribute to the cause of teen suicide, the ultimate tragedy.
